Phase One of the Women-Led Economic Empowerment Program
(Hettiyawatta St. Sebastian Fisheries Housing Scheme)

The first phase of a self-employment and economic empowerment initiative was launched with active participation from:

Ms. Roshana Rasik – Small Business Development Officer, Divisional Secretariat
Mr. S.H.M. Jayanath – Field Coordinator and Program Officer
Ms. D.A.C. Dissanayake – Science & Technology Officer (Gampaha District)
NISD Students – Contributing through practical community engagement on 5th of July 2024
This program was initiated in collaboration with the women’s group of the Hettiyawatta St. Sebastian Fisheries Housing Scheme, aiming to:
Foster self-reliance among women
Support micro-enterprise development
Promote inclusive local economic growth
Offer training and mentoring in small-scale business management
The project also focused on linking practical fieldwork to academic social development learning, making it a true model of community-university partnership.
