National Training on Food Sovereignty and People’s Responsibility

A national-level training was conducted on 18th May 2024 to draw critical attention to Sri Lanka’s declining food sovereignty and the growing dependence on food imports from over 124 countries, despite the country’s rich agricultural resources.
This session explored:
The identification of Sri Lanka’s local food resources
The shift from food independence to dependency
The role of global food organizations
The political dimensions of the food crisis
Participants discussed the rural food crisis and were engaged in practical approaches that the people’s movement can take to counteract food insecurity and influence national policy.
